Lights, Camera, Action!
The beautiful Tuscan landscape has always fascinated visitors and has captivated the hearts of film directors from Italy and abroad. The soft lines of the hills, the sweeping fields of corn, the rows of vines and silvered olives trees, and the majesty of the cypress trees have framed many films including "The English Patient" (1996) by Anthony Minghella, "The Gladiator" (2000) by Ridley Scott and Audrey Wells’ "Under the Tuscan Sun" (2003). The great cities of art have also played a starring role: Arezzo was the scene for Roberto Benigni’s wonderful, Oscar-winning film "Life is Beautiful" (1997). James Ivory’s "A Room with a View" (1985) was shot in Florence, as was "Hannibal" (2001) by Ridley Scott. Jane Campion’s "Portrait of a Lady" (1995) was set in the beautiful city of Lucca, while the latest James Bond film, "Quantum of Solace" by Marc Forster, was made in Siena. Add the unique Tuscan cuisine to this cinematographic package, as well as specially selected film viewings and you have the opportunity to view Tuscany through a very different lens!
