Deep Blue Sea – Along the Etruscan Coast
Starting from Viareggio, the famous high society seaside resort of Versilia at the foot of the Apuan Alps, we go south along the Etruscan Riviera. On our way we’ll find places suitable for bathing such as Cecina and Marina di Bibbona. The Archeological Park at Baratti and Populonia is an extraordinary protected natural area which includes the Etruscan and Roman settlements of Populonia, with its vast necropolis, and the Gulf of Baratti with its splendid sandy creek. On our way inland you’ll also find impressive towns such as the ancient silk metropolis of Lucca, the rich Maritime Republic of Pisa and the original Etruscan town of Volterra. The conclusion and the main highlight of our trip is the bike tour on the Island of Elba, a Mediterranean jewel. You will certainly taste the famous wines of this area and local food specialties in typical small restaurants - trattorie.
